ECUtune engines are built to exacting specifications and fully documented.  A selection of piston and camshaft options allows each engine to be tailored to optimally suit the intended application.

Rotating assembly:
High silicon aluminum bearings further enhanced with the same ct1 anti- friction coating used by Nascar teams are used for both the mains and rod bearings. All bearings are caged and each crank pin and journal is machined to achieve exactly the desired oil clearance within a tolerance range approximately 20 times more accurate than factory specifications. Each bearing bore, journal or pin diameter, and resulting oil clearance is included in the documentation provided to the purchaser. Sets of highly balanced H-beam rods with ARP 2000 rod bolts put together especially for ECUtune are used.

Pistons and cylinders:
For most applications forged pistons made especially for ECUtune are used. Compression ratios of 8.5, 9.3, 10.2, and 11.0 are available. Attention to every detail was paid in the design of each piston set and no option was left out. All pistons employ forced fed oiling, tool steel pins, and Subaru circlips. Squish area is carefully optimized to increase efficiency and ward off detonation with thorough charge mixing and heat distribution. 8.5 compression pistons employ lateral gas porting and a ring set designed for the extreme cylinder pressures of high boost forced induction systems. 9.3 and 11.0 compression pistons utilize OE type rings for long life. When a 10.2 compression ratio is desired the OE pistons are given the moly skirt coating and thermal barrier top coating. Piston diameters are measured and each cylinder is honed accordingly for exacting piston fitment in two steps providing a superior finish increasing cylinder seal and ring longevity. All piston diameters, cylinder bores, and resulting sidewall clearances are documented. Ring end gaps are precisely ground and documented.

Deck:
A "step deck" is CNC machined into the block to increase pressure on the head gasket around the cylinders thus preventing failure with higher cylinder pressures. Factory head gaskets and ARP 2000 head studs are used. This set up allows us to seal in higher cylinder pressures while allowing for greater thermal expansion of the block and heads without stretching the head studs past yield. Thus preventing head bolt/stud failure and the resulting head gasket failure under extreme operating conditions.

Heads:
Cylinder heads are ported, ports are bead blasted, block mating side is surfaced, and combustion chambers and exhaust ports are given a thermal barrier coating to improve thermal efficiency keeping combustion heat in the combustion gases where it makes power and out of the engine parts, coolant, and oil. Intake valve heads and exhaust valves to the valve guide are given the same coating. A thorough valve job is performed and valves are installed with custom springs to match the ECUtune camshafts.

Camshafts:
ECUtune camshafts use advanced profiles which accelerate and decelerate the valves for optimum performance while maintaining better control of the valve around the top of the lobe and gently setting the valve down. We can provide the optimal camshaft combination for any application. Durations of 236, 244, and 256 are available for the intake camshafts. Durations of 244, 256, and 264 are available for the exhaust camshafts.

The culmination:
The exacting tolerances and high quality bearings create an engine which can safely operate under load at high RPMs for extended periods. The cylinder head work and camshafts increase power output and allow us to tailor an engine for any rpm range up to 9,000 RPMs. Improved squish area performance and thermal barrier coatings keep combustion heat in the combustion gasses throughout the power stroke increasing MEP and power output while decreasing the load the cooling system must handle. The end result is a superior engine for marine, aeronautic, and automotive racing applications.

Shipment:
Depending on piston choice and production queue manufacture of engine will take 5 to 8 weeks from receipt of payment. A separate invoice for the actual freight costs will be sent when the engine is ready to ship or customer can arrange own shipping. International freight is available.
