These
are forged pistons designed for use with either gasoline or
E85 and boost levels well into the 30's psi range. They are
machined from the strongest forgings possible with emphasis
being placed on strength. Appropriate rings are included and
optimum ring placement for the application was incorporated
into the design. Lateral gas porting was incorporated to
facilitate sealing of extreme cylinder pressures. Tool
steel pins were used for maximum strength. Pins are centered
as this is better for higher cylinder pressures. Piston
tops are designed for optimum squish area performance,
intake charge mix, charge to spark kernel presentation,
flame propagation, and expansion force application.
Each piston with pin is about 2 ounces lighter than a
stock SVX piston and pin. These pistons should be used with
a bore honed to 97mm which is an easy hone from the factory
96.9mm bore. A 35-40 cross hatch pattern should be attained
with a 220-280 grit conventional hone or 325-550 grit
diamond hone. In either case the hone should be smoothed
with a 400-600 grit conventional abrasive or nylon bristle
plateau honing tool.Sold as a complete set including
rings and tool steel piston pins which fit both our rods and
the factory rods. The factory Subaru Tru Arc circlips
must be re-used. These pistons are specially machined
to use the factory circlips to make installing the center
pistons possible. |
